Caring for your Kids Shoes
Top tips on caring for your kid's shoes!
Remember to clean and protect your shoes regularly using the correct product. Never machine wash your shoes unless clear instructions are provided. Most leather soles and insoles can be replaced to prolong the life of your footwear. However, you should also alternate the shoes that you wear to allow them to breathe a little in between wearing them. Heavily dyed leather uppers are not always 100% colourfast, and some dye may transfer on to your socks.
Types of Material
Leather
You can protect leather from the odd unexpected shower and staining with a water-resistant protector spray. It’s important to keep uppers supple and buff away scuffs and scrapes with a coloured polish, clear dabbing or conditioning cream.
Coated Leather
Coated and waxy leathers can sometimes appear marked. However, this is just the natural variations in the material and can often disappear if you gently rub the area with a clean thumb to redistribute the waxy coating. You can also top up waxy or oily finishes by polishing the uppers with a clear dubbin or waxed leather conditioner.
Patent
Patent shoes can be taken care of with a wipe or a clean damp cloth to get rid of any dust or dirt. They can also be polished using a clean dry cloth to restore that shine.
Suede and Nubuck
Look after your suede and nubuck shoes with a water-resistant protector spray and clean gently with a suede cleaning block.
Textile
Soft and versatile, fabric shoes can be cleaned with a foam cleaner provided this is done with care.
